This is technical work involving all aspects of the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Facility.
These facilities include the 7.
0 mgd Military Point Regional Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility (MPRAWTF), North Bay Retail Wastewater treatment plant, 30 mgd industrial wastewater clarifier and pump station, and the 37 mgd Military Point aerated stabilization basin.
The employee works under the direct supervision of and is reviewed and evaluated by the Wastewater Facilities Lead Operator.
The employee typically works shifts in combination with other Wastewater Facilities Operators but may be assigned to work certain shifts alone.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND
Responsibilities:
Operates and maintains all aspects of the wastewater treatment facilities to ensure efficient treatment and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
Makes necessary adjustments to the treatment process, as required, to assure compliance with all rules, regulations and the facility's standard operating procedures.
Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance on treatment plant equipment and structures and assists the maintenance staff, as necessary, with major or unusual maintenance tasks.
Takes readings and measurements concerning various unit processes, collects samples, records measurements and helps maintain accurate records of operational and maintenance tasks performed.
Performs basic physical and chemical analysis to monitor treatment efficiency.
Informs the Wastewater Facilities Lead Operator of any mechanical or process defects observed or suspected defects or problems and proceeds with corrective or preventative action.
Demonstrates appropriate safety precautions and procedures for all tasks initiated.
Helps train the Wastewater Facilities Operator Trainees engaged in routine plant operation.
This position is an essential position which requires personnel to report to work (as needed) during a state of emergency.
Regular reliable full time attendance as scheduled.
The employer may add to or change duties at any time and as determined by the County and its leaders to best ensure that the public is served through the work of the Department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants that do not meet the minimum education/experience requirement will be hired in as a trainee operator.
Upon meeting the minimum education/experience requirement the trainee will be moved into an Operator position with a higher pay range.
Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
Must possess a current Florida Wastewater Treatment Certificate, Class C or higher.
A minimum of one (1) year of experience at a secondary biological wastewater treatment facility.
Must be able to comprehend, speak and read the English language.
Must have and maintain good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with the public.
A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications except for the required certification and valid Florida Driver's license.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:
Applicant must possess a Class C Water Treatment Plant Operators certificate issued by the State of Florida (FAC 62-602) within a period of two (2) years, however, satisfactory progress toward obtaining the certification must be demonstrated within one (1) year.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver license upon offer of employment with a driving record acceptable to the County Driving Policy and insurance program.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and understanding of operation and maintenance practices and procedures for secondary biological wastewater treatment systems.
Knowledge and understanding of the functions and mechanics of pumps, valves, compressors, motors and other plant equipment.
Skilled in the use of basic mechanical repair tools and procedures.
Must have good interpersonal and communication skills to deal with public.
Outstanding project management and organizational skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or analyze data.
Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
Ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory date and information.
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; may include the ability to perform mathematical operations with fractions; may include ability to compute discount, interest, profit and loss, ration and proportion; may include ability to calculate surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.
Ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and the exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variation in assigned objectives Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
Ability to work weekends and holidays, to on call and respond to calls during non-scheduled work hours.
Ability to monitor the operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in the treatment process and detect flaws and/or defects and repair same.
Ability to read meters and charts accurately, to maintain comprehensive records of operation and maintenance tasks, and to perform required chemical and bacteriological analysis accurately.
Ability to properly operate and maintain treatment processes in order to meet or exceed permit requirements and standard operating procedures.
Ability to read and comprehend technical information related to the job and to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
